Natural resources conservation and management:

  • In close cooperation with regional scientific institutions, PAD is regularly studying the impact on the local coral reefs and monitors ecological change of the marine biosphere. In addition, the Tsunami proved the importance of mangroves as bio-shields. Due to the high demand from target groups, PAD initiated Mangrove re-plantation. This was supplemented by addressing marine biosphere protection awareness trainings for children, primary school teachers, livelihood groups and PRI-members. PAD has rehabilitated ten rain water harvesting structures and more than 250 acres of waste land were rehabilitated. Continuously involved in Coastal Cleanup Program to educate the coastal people and also involve them in protecting the Gulf of Mannar National Marine Park supported by Ministry of Environmental and Forest, Government of India.

  • PAD involves Socioeconomic Monitoring for Coastal Managers of South Asia: Field Trials and Baseline Surveys Gulf of Mannar along with other partners around globe to monitor on behalf of local in Marine Protected Areas.

  • PAD currently involve in implementing Climate change Score card tools to assess the climate change impact among coastal communities and governance structure in GOM along with Public Affairs centre – Bangalore.
